Bora Bora is a small South Pacific island located about 160 miles northwest of Papeete, Tahiti. It’s known for its crystal clear waters, white sand beaches, and over-the-water bungalows. Not only is Bora Bora one the the most beautiful places on earth it was a perfect place for a getaway before our 4 child was born. In a way this was what we called our baby moon. Erin was 7 months pregnant, so a few things were not doable for someone pregnant, but over all she still loved every moment of it.
Here are my top 5 things to do in Bora Bora:
- Stay in an over-water bungalow at the 4 Seasons Resort: If you’re looking to experience the ultimate in luxury, then you won’t want to miss the chance to stay in an over-water bungalow at the 4 Seasons Resort in Bora Bora. Not only will you have your own private deck with steps leading down into the crystal clear waters of the lagoon, but you’ll also have breathtaking views of Mount Otemanu (which, let’s be real, is basically the Instagram capital of the South Pacific). Bonus points if you manage to snap a pic of yourself lounging on your deck, pretending like you’re not just an ordinary mortal.
- Swim with sharks: If you’re feeling brave (or just really, really love Shark Week), then you’ll want to check out the shark snorkeling offered by many of the tour operators on Bora Bora. Don’t worry, these are generally peaceful, docile blacktip reef sharks that are more interested in munching on bits of fish than on chomping on humans. So go ahead and dive in, just make sure to stay on the side of the rope that the sharks didn’t swim on. Not joking. All we had was a rope between us and the sharks.
- Paddle board through the lagoon: For a more low-key way to explore the stunning lagoon of Bora Bora, you can rent a paddle board (or borrow one from your resort) and make your way around the island at your own pace. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can even try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding.
- Snorkeling: If you’ve always wanted to see what it’s like to be a fish (but without the whole breathing underwater thing), then snorkeling is for you. Bora Bora’s lagoon is home to a wide variety of colorful fish and coral, so you’ll have plenty to see and explore. Just make sure to bring your underwater camera and a sense of wonder, because you never know what you might encounter down there (I saw all types of fish and even a turtle)
- Ride wave runners around the island: If you’re feeling the need for speed, then you’ll want to check out the wave runner tours offered by many of the tour operators on Bora Bora. You’ll get to zip around the lagoon and even make your way out to the open ocean, feeling the wind in your hair and the spray on your face. Just make sure to follow all safety precautions, because the last thing you want is to end up as fish food. Not advisable if you are pregnant so this one I did on my own.
Getting to Bora Bora is an adventure in itself, you’ll need to fly to Papeete, Tahiti, and then take a short flight to Bora Bora. Over all what makes Bora Bora special is it natural beauty, luxury resorts, over water bungalows, multitude of water activities, and best of all the relaxation.
