Queen’s Bath Kauai, Hawaii

Waterfalls after the rain

Princeville, Hawaii (Island of Kauai)

When life throws you a you curve ball you go to Hawaii. Or at least that is what we hoped. For the past two years my wife and I, along with our two oldest kids had been planning a trip to Thailand for a couple weeks.

Remembering our trip to Thailand in 2014

During this trip we planed to spend days in Siem Reap – Cambodia and visit Angkor Wat, see the mountains and beautiful beaches in Thailand, and spend a day visiting Tokyo Japan.

Then the Coronavirus (COVID-19) hit Asia and world travel came to a halt. Instead of planning our final details for our trip to Asia we scrambled, as so many others, to figure out how to cancel our trip plans and understand what we were going to loose out on. (We ended up loosing about $1,000 on flights but I guess life goes on and it could have been worse)

Being grateful the airline (United Airways) who gave us a credit on our flight. (It did take hours on the phone to work out) However, we realized we had to use the credit for the same 4 people within 1 year from the date we booked the flight. Meaning we only had a few months to use the credit without it going to waist.

We made a quick decision and decided to try out luck with Hawaii. (Found some great travel partners with a few other family members) Looking at options we found a nice Airbnb in Kauai located in Princeville, Hawaii walking distance from the famous Queen’s Bath.

We only had a couple days in Kauai. It had been raining all day when we finally arrived, but when the rain let up for a couple hours we decided to take a walk down to the ocean and see Queen’s Bath.

The Hike

We didn’t know a lot about the hike, but knew it would be a muddy hike. Here is a short video from part of our hike.

It took 10-15 mins to make the hike to the ocean. Once at the coast you will find amazing lava rock formations and waterfalls running into the ocean.

At the bottom of the trail you see an old sign indicating 25+ deaths. This sign is said to be an exaggerations, but a good warning for all visitors.

Not far from Queens Bath along the cost of Kauai

I would also advise to be careful and not go swimming and just take in the beauty of nature. Here is a link to one of the better articles I have read regarding further details about Queens Bath.
