Walking Ghost Tour in Savannah, GA

Haunted Tour Savannah, Georgia

It’s October, what’s better than going to one of the most haunted cities in America?

The whole family had a day to spend in Savannah, Georgia. We arrived late afternoon and after a long day of traveling and only one evening in Savannah we decided to check out the old town and why it is considered one of the top 5 haunted cities in America.

We first needed to grab something for dinner and found a great sit-down restaurant along river street called Tubby’s Seafood. Here is the address for quick access. 115 E River St, Savannah, GA 31401 I loved the special for the day, fresh Red Snapper. My Kids all loved the fresh shrimp and the grits were to die for.

With 4 kids ages 5-13 we looked for a Haunted tour that would be appropriate for children and we found a great one. We booked our tour with Ghost City Tours and chose the tour called “Grave Tales” which they say is Savannah’s #1 All-Ages/Family-Friendly Ghost Tour. The cost was $20 per person 12+ and $9.99 (ages 6-12) under 6 was free. There was a small discount going on at this time due to Covid. The tour started at 9pm right in the heart of Savannah and if you are worried about being able to social distance this tour was perfect. We were able to see some of Savannah’s Haunted Mansions, Cemeteries, Burial Grounds, and the simple spookiness of Savannah at night.

Not to ruin the great stories, but I asked my kids which stories they liked the best and summarized them below.

Kids Favorites:

My 9 year old boy loved a story about a haunted mansion where a young girl would grab the ankles of party guests in her home. After her tragic death people have continued to experience someone grab their ankles but when looking around, no one is to be found.

My 13 year old son’s favorite story was about a dual between two men at the cemetery. Both ended up shooting each other but neither died of the gun shot. Later one became infected with gangrene, died and haunted the survivor for the rest of his life.

My 5 year old daughter remembers best the story about a ghost cat which only kids have seen, but many adults have asked their kids what they are doing and they respond that they are petting a cat without an actual cat present.

My 11 year old girl loves the story about how in one city square all the moss in the trees is missing. This is due to a historic figure that disliked the moss so much in the trees that he now cleans all the trees inside this one city square.

These are just a few of the fascinating stores. There are tales of murders, and hauntings and not to mention you get to pass by the most haunted hotel in the country (The Marshal House) which is still being haunted by civil war solders who died there when the hotel was used as a hospital. Yes you can book a reservation there.

One last thing that you must do in Savannah is visit Leopold’s Famous Ice Cream. My kids said this was the best ice cream they have ever tasted. It has been serving Savannah since 1919.
